Haha, I'm 543 words into my NaNoWriMo novel and already stuck. Oh awesomeness. Dear Brain, please start cooperating, will you? Kthxbai.

Also, I have started watching Blood Ties last night. Kind of a Loser!Halloween (yay, vampires) since M's party somehow never got out of the planning stage. I think I like it.

Dragged my tired self out of bed this morning to go to a class only to see it was cancelled when I got there. So M, R and I went to the cafeteria instead and overdosed on caffeine. My life rocks.

*wanders off to watch Private Practice*

Dear Miss Person From Work,
not only have I been working your shift and my own for three weeks and had to defend myself for asking you to work for me for four days, no, now you decide to disappear again for an entire week. Thank you. It's not like I have a life of my own or anything.
No love,
me

Am staying with my family for the weekend. Being alone in Leipzig is no fun. Still looking for a new job. Avoiding to think about all the things I have to organize regarding uni and my nonexistent future there. Life is stressful. I'm gonna disappear into fandom for a few hours.
alianne82: (Default)
Work was quiet today. Everyone in the office is either sick or on vacation, so it was just my boss and me today. Which means I got the chance to play receptionist for a day. Well. Basically, I just sat in the receptionist's chair, but no one came in and no one called, so it wasn't really all that spectacular. Boss sent me home early because there was no work. Seriously, I don't mind having an easy job over the summer, but this is turning out to be pretty ridiculous. But I won't complain. This job pays for London.

I am finally making progress on that psycholinguistics paper. On that note, I still have to enrol at university for the next semester. I have only six days left to do that. I think there's a subconscious reason I put this off for so long. But I am going to do it. I am. I swear.

In random news, I have the irresistible urge to watch Torchwood again. And Doctor Who, some old episodes with Rose. Ten and Rose preferably, although I also would like to see some Nine episodes again.

Okay, back to studying.

Work is amusing in its very own way. I want Monday off, they give me Friday off. But I'll take it. There's not actually anything to do for me there right now anyway. Have mostly been bored all day until they finally sent me home at 3 pm. Now I have an early weekend. Which is awesome, because it gives me time to work on my psycholinguistics paper. I should be doing that right now, but I'm sort of stuck.

Also, I have the Cold From Hell. I can't stop sneezing and I'm wearing woollen socks even though it's almost 30 degrees Celsius outside. It's summer. I shouldn't have a cold. It's just not right.

I should go to the library, but I think I'm going to put that off until tomorrow. I should also clean the apartment before [livejournal.com profile] emily_sheppard arrives on Saturday. That too will be put off until tomorrow.

I think I'm going to try writing that paper now. I still have a history paper to write that I haven't even started on. But it doesn't have to be done until the middle of October, so there's still time. Yes.
alianne82: (genius at work)
Me trying to write a paper:

-- * sits down at desk and opens document *
-- * stares at blinking cursor on screen for several minutes *
-- Okay, so... Language processing. Notion of modularity. Brain...
-- Dammit, I need coffee.
-- * goes to make coffee *
-- * returns to desk *
-- Right. Where was I. Um. So, language. Bilingual brain. Oooh, alliteration. Yay.
-- I haven't checked my email today.
-- * opens browser and checks email *
-- Okay, back to the paper... So, language. Hehehe, funny word. Language. Laaaaang-wich. Language.
-- I want chocolate ice cream. Chocolate ice cream would be great right now.
-- * goes to get ice cream *
-- Language processing mechanisms...
-- They said we'd get a storm today. I wonder if that's still gonna happen. It's really too hot outside. A storm would be great.
-- Okay, paper.
-- * stares at screen some more *
-- "..."
-- Brain... Language Processing...
-- New Harry Potter tomorrow, *wheee*
-- * goes to open window *
-- * goes to close window again *
-- Paper... writing...
-- * yawns *
-- * stares out the window *
-- Hey, I could update LJ...

Yeah, well... I guess I really need to write that stupid paper now, haha.

Freedom!

Also called Whitsun Holidays. Anyways, it means I have next week off. I have an entire! week! off!! :D

The funny thing? I didn't know until last week. Seriously. Somehow those things always escape me. I knew we had Monday off, but I thought that was it. I even thought it was a little strange that all of my friends made holiday plans for next week, but it never occured to me that there might actually really not be any classes. At all. But hey, you certainly won't hear me complaining. :P

I'm gonna go on a short-ish visit to my family. I also need to start working on my 20 pages psycholinguistics paper, but I think I'm just gonna take the work with me.

I have a week off, yay! :)
alianne82: (holy shit)
Where did summer come from all of a sudden? Two days ago it was still cold and raining (well, not quite, but that's really beside the point here) and yesterday it suddenly gets all warm and sunny and ... HOT!! Too hot!

I think my ancestors must have been Vikings or some equally northern-ish tribe, because I really don't handle heat very well. Okay, that's kind of an understatement. I don't "handle" heat at all. I simply become absolutely useless.

So. I didn't sleep last night because it was too warm. I have two big windows in my room, both facing south, and from May/June onwards the apartment turns into a freaking sauna. So I lay awake all night wishing I was in northern Lapland or Alaska and finally fell asleep around 5 am. The alarm went off at 5:30. And because I'm a responsible student (what? Stop laughing!) I kind of sleepwalked to my 7:15 class and miraculously managed to stay awake the entire 90 minutes. I went back home then since I had two hours between classes and decided to just rest my weary head for a few minutes.

I woke up again around lunchtime, perfectly rested and even my headache gone. Of course I had missed my next two classes as well.

Can I move to Scandinavia now, please? Or at least get a little more student loan so I can buy myself a working desk fan?

Actually, I am already tired again. But I should probably at least get a little reading done if I have already taken the day off otherwise.

It will be winter again soon, right? RIGHT?

*wanders off*
alianne82: (lorelai + coffee + car)
Presentation today went extremely well. I think not only am I getting used to it, but I actually like it. It's fun. I want more presentations.

Random observation of the day: the most confusing thing about being a grown-up is being addressed by my last name. Every time it happens I turn around to see if my mom is standing behind me.

VICTORY!

Assignments are done. Presentation on Peisistratos is as good as ready. Just have to email it to my co-presenter and hope that I get the summary of his part before tomorrow afternoon so I can make the final adjustments. I have even cleaned the apartment.

You know what I'm gonna do now? NOTHING.

I have a little over fourteen hours of weekend left before I have to get up on Monday morning. I intend to spend at least six of them sleeping, so that leaves me eight hours to do WHATEVER I WANT. YAY!

WEEKEND!
alianne82: (voyager - new horizons)
So. Having an all kinds of crazy semester at least produces interesting dreams. Or maybe it’s the fact that I was trying to read various books simultaneously while working on a history presentation and doing Latin homework (and really only wanted to watch Supernatural all the time).

I dreamed that I was road tripping with Jensen Ackles. Only we weren’t really road tripping, we were on our way to Mount Doom to destroy The One Ring. Well, actually I was doing research for a presentation, only I don't know what it was about. The dream didn’t say. Anyway, there was of course a bad guy chasing us, and he looked just like the Hessian Horseman from Sleepy Hollow. So I said we had to drive to Belgium to shake him off, because bad things couldn't happen there. (Kes, can you confirm that? *g*) But he said it was a detour, because Mount Doom was more in the general direction of France. And there was still the problem that I had to show up for class every day, but of course I could fly, so it wasn’t really that much of a problem.

Of course I woke up before anything interesting happened. *sigh*

*is amused*

Ooh, I remembered I still have some drabbles to write from the meme I posted last week. I’m gonna write them. I just had NO TIME so far, because of OMGassignmentspresentationspapers and all that. But I kinda want to write. So, yeah.

That is all for now. *goes to sleep* *goes back to reading uni stuff*

weekend?

I doooon't want to prepare this stupid presentation on bilingualism.

I want my weekend to myself. *sulks*

And I want to write. Sometimes it's no fun being a student.

But I still like it

*sigh*

Anyone else who always feels like travelling in spring?

Seriously, if I had 1) money, 2) a car, and 3) TIME, I’d take a road trip. Maybe up north to Scandinavia or something. Just me, some good music and the North Sea coast.

Instead, I’ve got assignments to do, presentations to prepare, and papers to write.

But I can dream, right?
alianne82: (voyager - new horizons)
Semester starts Monday next week. Yay. I've already picked my classes and, as always, I've picked way too many. But I can't choose. There are gonna be some really interesting classes next semester and I want to do all of them. ALL OF THEM! YES!

I drove Sibling Four of Five to the electronics store today to buy a DVD player from her birthday money. The guy at the store totally thought Four of Five was my daughter. o_O This kind of confusion happens quite often, with both Four of Five and Five of Five, and I never know whether to be amused or completely freaked out. *g*

I want to post the next part of the detective story, but I'm way too lazy to html-code it. *yawns* Later. *wanders off to find something to read*
alianne82: (Default)
I have defeated CSS and got myself a new layout and a new header. I'm not sure how much I like it, but I'm too lazy to change it back now.

And now I should really start studying. I have a presentation on Thursday. I should also really learn Latin vocab. And I think it's my turn to clean the bathroom. Do I know how to have a good time, or what?
alianne82: (daniel dork)
I have tomorrow off because of the awesome invention of dies academicus. Which means I will probably go home. Long weekends are seriously like the best thing EVER! *happy*

Looks like I will have lots of time this weekend. Maybe I'll even get some writing done. It's going a bit slow at the moment. If I remember correctly the deadline for the [livejournal.com profile] swficathon is approaching rather quickly. And I have yet to turn all those random thoughts in my head into an actual story. I'm really starting to think I should have started earlier. *lol*

I should probably also start studying for Latin, since the exam is in February. Did I mention already how much I'm looking forward to getting rid of Latin in February? Although now I'm thinking of taking up ancient Greek once Latin is over. Someone talk me out of it, pleeeease!
alianne82: (jack ??)
My university is being taken over by the Goa'uld.

One of our literature profs looks like Ba'al.

The universal languages prof looks like Sarah/Osiris.

Help!
alianne82: (daniel uh-huh)
*grumbles* I distinctly remember the history prof saying at the end of last class that the homework he'd set was NOT MUCH. Hrrmmph. Finding all kinds of specific information in an eighteen pages long speech in frakking LATIN is so not not much!!

But yay, I'm going home for the weekend! *needs to start packing*

*giggles*

So, uni CAN be fun, after all.

'English satirists' is so my favourite class this semester! (I know I might have mentioned that before...)
Prof showed us bits and pieces of Bright Young Things with DAVID TENNANT in it! *squeee* Well, I didn't actually see the bits with him in it, because we really only watched very little of the movie, but still... *grins*
*lol* Then someone said something concerning books and drugs in the movie and what says the prof?
"Well, generally speaking we should really make a distiction between books and drugs." *pauses* "Though I will admit that depends on the book and the drugs!"

Hehe.

We also established that satire today is pretty much dead because we're all suckers for happy endings and that tragedy is to die next and that one day someone will probaly even re-write Hamlet to have a happy ending. Meaning resurrection of Hamlet (and all the other dead people on stage) = doom of our modern society. Or something.

Skipped my next lecture (Core readings in modern linguistics *yaaawwns*). Funny, I always used to feel really bad about skipping classes. Everything's sorta different this semester...

Oh well.

*wanders off to work on history assignment*
alianne82: (Default)
to ward off depression...

...what was good about today:

- Even though I didn't hear the alarm clock and totally overslept I still had time for coffee and was NOT late for class!
- "English Satirists of the twentieth century" is undoubtedly the bestest class this semester! Prof!quote of the day: "The catholic church doesn't sell letters of indulgence anymore" *pauses* "...officially!" *lol* You rock, Dr. R.!! :D
- I managed to suffer through 90 minutes of "Core Readings in Modern Linguistics" without yawning even one single time.
- Finished the history assignment for tomorrow in under 30 minutes.
- Had the time to get some writing done and I don't even hate what I've written.
- Had time to read just for fun. Yay.

... well, I guess that really isn't too bad...
